Poetry & Prose on the Move

My Poetry & Prose group has been getting around a bit. This week we went up to Jewett City to check out a new bookstore that features the work of indie authors. That is a very rare thing if you didn't know. Dawn Foley is the owner of The Signed Collection, and she is passionate about creating space for and celebrating independent authors. We hit it off beautifully and left there inspired and a few books lighter. While you're in the area, there is a fabulous place to eat called Charlene's Diner, a very retro place we stumbled upon for lunch. Try the chicken soup. Stop in and visit Dawn and her Signed Collection just around the corner. And now our books have once again spread their wings.

My dear friend Julia is as happy as I am that she received her copy of my new book. Poetry from a Magic Cottage by the Sea, made it all the way to Star Island in New Hampshire. I love this photo of her. I wonder which poem will be her favorite. I love to hear the favorites. I have several.

Speaking of spreading wings, I asked Hillary from our writing group to tell you a little about herself and her writing as she gets ready to launch the latest novel in her Scottish-inspired romance series.

"I started out a scientist, then turned energy healer, and now in my third lifetime incarnation, an author. Writing is what I should have been doing all along. It gives me so much joy. But I would not have done any of this without Poetry & Prose! Initially, I wanted to write about my life, but that quickly turned into the story of Bess and James. Making things up is much more fun. You can see why we have such a good time with this writing life we have created. We are enjoying meeting great people, sharing our work with the world, and writing our next book. Always, always, always writing. Hillary and I will be launching our new books in August. By coincidence, my poetry book and her new novel, #3 in her Ogilvie series, were published about the same time, so we're celebrating together. Joanne will be with us in spirit, as she will be traveling. I hope she remembers to take one of my books with her. Our launch will be held at the Groton Public Library with lots of books to sign, plenty of refreshments, and entertainment as we read from our latest work and share a little about how they came to be. I hope to see some of you there.

If you know of other establishments that welcome independent authors, for book signings or to carry our books on their shelves, do let us know and we'll make a visit. We love a good field trip that often concludes with ice cream.
