“What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose…all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”

-Helen Keller, We Bereaved (1929)

Poetry from a Magic Cottage by the Sea

Poetry from a Magic Cottage by the Sea came to fruition when my writing group, Poetry & Prose, challenged/encouraged me to put together a collection of poetry that I’d written over decades and few had seen the light of day. As a collection of lyrical and haiku poetry, it is a dance of the spirit, woven together to create a tapestry of life. The poems reflect life in all it's glorious, challenging, healing, humorous, spiritual, creative, grace-filled ways.  The cottage is a sacred symbol here that represents hope, renewal, transformation, harmony, and connection to the Spirit. Many poems are inspired by the beauty of Cape Cod brought to life in Synchronicity-Two Hearts, One Spirit, a Forbidden Love. I’m grateful for this experience of putting this book together, and pray that you find a piece of yourself within these pages. I’ll bet you will. Here are a couple...

God Bless & Peace to you,

Patty

“Emo-Archeology”

Some poetry has been described

As a collection of emotional artifacts

That sounded pretty true to me

So I sat a while with that

“Emo-archeology” I called it

I’m an archeologist now am I?

I suppose there is some truth to this

As I mine the stories that have shaped my life

“Emo-archeology”

I’m guessing it’s what writers do

They mine the stuff of legends

And all that they’ve been through

Fodder for the next novel

Memoir or poetry book

Giving readers something meaningful

To curl up with in their nook

Courage & Creativity

As the artist discloses

What’s in their very soul

And shares what’s been percolating

There are few things as bold

Maybe held it for a while or a lifetime

But isn’t that what art is for

Creating something fabulous

Daring to open it’s door

For the world to appreciate

To see

To interpret

what it means

It's all so very subjective

I laugh to think it can be taught

Creating is the only objective

For the artist whose muse was caught

We surrender what we make

Releasing it into the wild

Surrendering the outcome

As if it were our child

No easy task and I’d like to say

We get used to it over time

That hold your breath surrender

The unwanted judgment or advice

If we create for long enough

Eventually we might let go

To other people’s responses

To our creative soul

But there is always a part of us

That values a kind and gentle word

About our creative spirit

And work offered to this world
